Enterprise Search Europe 2014 – Conference Preview

The 4th Enterprise Search Europe conference will take place in London on 29-30 May 2014, chaired by Martin White of Intranet Focus. BCS-IRSG Members can benefit from 20% discount on delegate places.

“In developing the programme, our priority is always for delegates to learn from the successes and challenges faced by other search managers,” explains Martin White. “What really stands out about this year’s Enterprise Search Europe conference is the number of case studies. Delivered almost entirely by practicing search managers, and not vendors, they cover a wide range of business environments, demonstrating common search opportunities and challenges. “

Search implementation case studies presented at the conference will include Airbus, AstraZeneca, Ernst & Young, MAN Truck & Bus, Reed Business Information, the Dutch government department Rijkswaterstaat, UBS, and University College London.

The opening keynote speaker is Dale Roberts, author and co-founder of Artesian Solutions. In his keynote ‘Decision Sourcing – Decision Making for the Agile Social Enterprise’, Dale will explore what living in a post-information age means to information workers, decision makers and the corporation as a whole, and explains why the convergence of Social, Big Data, Analytics and Enterprise Search will enable businesses to be agile in a world that is increasingly unforgiving of those that are not.

Day two’s opening keynote is  ‘The Future of Search’, in which two search experts – Professor Elaine Toms of the University of Sheffield, and Jeff Fried, CTO of BA Insight – of will consider whether the future of search will be determined by the vendor community of the user community.

The conference will also feature four pre-conference workshops which will drill down into the four key topics in more detail. Workshops include Charlie Hull of Flax on ‘Getting the best from open source search’; Tony Russell-Rose on ‘Designing Search Usability’; and two SharePoint sessions, one focusing on architecture and capabilities, and the other on successful projects and practices.

The conference offers excellent networking opportunities and the chance to see a wide range of search applications in the accompanying sponsor showcase. “The focus of the conference is on developing business-driven search solutions”, said Martin White. “We aim to make sure that delegates leave with questions answered, a lot of new business contacts, and a huge amount of enthusiasm for making search work better.”
